Brownlee cake and ale for star duo at Ilkley Literature Festival

General Spooner News

Olympic heroes, Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, had a taste of Ilkley’s finest exports on Saturday as part of their Ilkley Literature Festival appearance which was sponsored by Ilkley Brewery and Spooner Industries. The brothers, who were promoting their book Swim, Bike, Run: Alastair and Jonathan Brownlee, were presented with a giant six foot long Spooner Chocolate Brownlee Cake, which was paired with a pint of Ilkley Brewery’s specially-made Brownlee Brown Ale. Guests at the King’s Hall event were all treated to samples of the ale and the cake. Chris Ives, managing director of Ilkley Brewery, said: “Alistair and Jonathan are local heroes through and through so it was wonderful to welcome them back to home turf and celebrate their astounding achievements at London 2012. “We hope the boys enjoyed their time in Ilkley as well as their namesake tipple.” Steve Newell, IronMan, Olympic Torch Bearer and director of Spooner Industries, added: “Along with many Spooner employees, I am a keen athlete and fan of the Brownlees so we were thrilled at the opportunity to not only sponsor the event, but create something special to celebrate their success.”
